Hi guys! Today I’ve teamed up with Swarovski to share my favorite hosting tips with you to make your guests feel extra welcome when entertaining in your home. There are a few tricks I’ve picked up over the years that I’ve found make people relax and feel at ease from the moment they walk trough the door. It’s always hit and miss when you’re working with tricky timings and juggling the cooking, decorating and entertaining, but let’s call this an ultimate checklist for setting your get together up for success!
As I’ve been getting more and more into photography I absolutely loved styling and shooting Swarovski’s playful seasonal home collection. The crystal trinkets capture the light so beautifully and are nothing short from mesmerizing. I absolutely love the result and I hope you do too! And at the end of the post there is a giveaway involved, so stay tuned!
1.Have drinks ready and make sure there is some food out when your guests walk in.
This avoids the “are we too early” vibe and saves you a hasty run to the kitchen. I always make sure the glasses for the aperitif are in the living room, and when the doorbell rings and I buzz my guests up, I grab my bottle or concoction from the fridge and take it to the living room. Similar story for the appetizers. My personal favorites are crackers, crudités, cheeses and hummus, because they require little attention at the beginning of the evening when you are busy welcoming your guests. Make sure it doesn’t look too “perfect” (e.g. slice off a piece of cheese) so your guests aren’t afraid to dig in.
2.For me, nothing says “a warm welcome” like flowers on the table. It doesn’t have to be an expensive bouquet, sometimes a few well chosen and well styled branches and flowers are enough.
3. Make personalized name tags for your guests and maybe even add a gift for them to take home. A beautiful ornament to hang in their own tree is a lovely option!
4. Be relaxed! Have music playing when guests come in (make a playlist, I always forget this!) and try not to be too stressed about the food etc. The best way to avoid this?
-Start preparing well in advance. Make everything you can before your guests arrive
-Don’t make dishes you haven’t made before
Know the steps? Less stress!
-Have a good mix of store bought and homemade items
The crudités I mentioned earlier are an excellent example of this: an easy appetizer that I’ll likely follow up with a home made Thai fish soup or something else with great impact.
5.Dimmed lighting & candles
I think nobody ever had a cosy evening in cold light. Have multiple indirect (warm) light sources and light some candles. Now it’s a party!
