Skinsavers // My favorite beauty products for acne-prone skin

I’ve always had a troubled relationship with my skin. Ever since I was 12, I’ve had acne. Sometimes it got better, sometimes it got worse. Until a couple of years ago I abandoned all hormonal treatments only to be left with skin that was worse than when I was a 16 year old schoolgirl.

After trying some non conventional products, and being exactly where I started, I decided to go back to more traditional methods. So last year in january, as a part of my new years resolutions, I went to see a dermatologist in Antwerp. You have to know that my experience with dermatologists has been a bit frustrating, often being told the situation wasn’t that bad (the scars on my back tell a different story) or randomly being prescribed the Diane 35 pill without much explanation (which I took for 8 years). But I have to say my experience with Dr. Ann Schoofs was different. She really took the time to analyse what I wanted and  didn’t want as a treatment, had my blood tested and revealed a hormonal imbalance that is the root of the problem.

After visiting a specialist, I chose a hormonal treatment to help my body find a better balance. The hormones have cleared up my skin enormously, but there are still days when there are some impurities in my skin. So I thought I would share some of my favorite products I now use on a regular basis that I’ve found helpful myself! Here goes!

Darphin // Aromatic purifying balm via

Darphin Aromatic purifying balm

I think this is my number one favorite beauty product. I’ve already mentioned this one here and since then, it has been my go to product whenever I feel a blemish coming up. Somehow, it works magic.

Darphin has become my go to brand for basic skin care needs and I have yet to discover a product I didn’t love. At the moment, I also use the Purifying aromatic clay mask (for that fresher than fresh skin feeling), the Hydrating kiwi mask (for when my mixed skin needs a little extra moisture) weekly, and the Cleansing foam gel with water lily (the best cleanser I ever had), the CC cream and the Hydraskin essential all-day skin-hydrating emulsion (as a night cream). The products aren’t cheap, but well worth it and I don’t need to use too much of them.

Another plus is I can shop them at my local pharmacy, so I don’t need to go into the city centre when I need something. Double score!

Glossier // priming moisturizer via

Glossier priming moisturizer

I read almost no beauty blogs, but Into The Gloss has fascinated me since the moment it was founded. When Into The Gloss bosslady and allround cool girl Emily Weiss launched Glossier, I had to try it. Small bump in the road: Glossier does not ship to Belgium. Argh! But when I was in New York last september Glossier opened its doors every friday, so I got to test and take home the Priming moisurizerMega greens galaxy pack . And guess what, they are amazing. The priming moisturizer is a great base for daily make up and leaves your skin feel silky smooth. So please Glossier, ship to Europe soon okay?

ps: If you’re dying to test something: Net-a-porter sells the balm dotcom.

Rainpharma // Advanced precleanser via

Rainpharma advanced precleanser

100% Belgian brand Rainpharma’ s Advanced precleanser is the perfect tool to rid your skin of dirt, make up and sebum. It uses oils from jojoba, apricots, olives, buckthorn, avocado and almonds to attract oil like a magnet, and has an extremely mild feel. The precleanser can serve as a cleanser for when you don’t want to treat your skin aggressively, but I use it at night before I use my cleanser. Like all Rainpharma products, this one is all natural, plant based and no nonsense. And how pretty is this packaging? Also great for those of you with sensitive skin.

Clarisonic // Mia 2 via

 Clarisonic Mia 2

I’d heard and read so many good things about the Clarisonic, I was so curious to test the device myself. I’ve tested some other face brushes prior to the Clarisonic and I have to say that for me, Clarisonic is by far the best one. The packaging and product design is superior (they feel more upscale to me) and the circular motion of the brush makes all the difference. Sometimes I get lazy and don’t use my Clarisonic Mia 2 for a while because I’ve misplaced my charger, and my skin definitely shows. I love how soft and fresh my skin feels right after using it, it’s as if nothing else can really cleanse your face like this. Sure the Clarisonic an investment, but it’s one worth making!
