Those of you who follow me on Instagram, will probably already have seen this one, but the walls of our living room are no longer just a whiter shade of pale. No, they are now adorned by this wonderful (and giant) artwork by my good friend and multitalented artist Michiel Pelerents. Michiel always uses objects found in his daily surroundings, isolates and abstracts them. Since I’ve known him, I’ve seen him use a number of materials like oil paint, pastel, papyrus and even vinyl foil in his work and somehow he’s always moving on to the next thing before we can even grasp what he’s doing now.
For my last birthday/our housewarming, my friends in Antwerp decided to have this one framed as a gift. I really couldn’t believe it, since I’ve had my eyes on it for ages but stuff kept getting in the way (like buying an apartment). From all of Michiel’s artworks, this one appealed to me the most from the start because of the colours, the shape and the subject. Somehow, I feel it just suits me.
It’s kinda hard to see in the pictures how big the lipstick is, but it’s so impressive in real life and we’ve received a lot of compliments since we hung it on the wall. It definitely is the eyecatcher in the living room. I absolutely love it, and I love that it now reminds me of my amazing friends even more.
